De’Longhi has introduced a new design concept at Milan Design Week, presenting a creative installation that reimagines the coffee experience through a series of miniature environments. Titled The World’s Smallest Coffee Shop, the project has been developed in collaboration with Simon Weisse Studio and brings together five detailed models inspired by iconic café cultures from Paris, Tokyo, Milan, Copenhagen and Berlin.

Rather than a single installation, the concept is made up of multiple scaled-down spaces that reflect the character and atmosphere of each city. At the centre of each design is one of De’Longhi’s fully automatic coffee machines, positioned as the key element behind the café experience. The idea is to demonstrate how high-quality, café-style coffee can be recreated at home using advanced machine technology.

Leading the display is the Rivelia bean-to-cup coffee machine, designed to offer flexibility for users who want to experiment with different coffee beans and roast profiles. Its interchangeable bean hoppers allow for easy switching between varieties, supporting a more personalised brewing experience that mirrors professional barista techniques.

The collaboration also brings together elements of film production and architectural design. Simon Weisse, known for his work on detailed miniature sets in cinema, has applied his expertise to the project by creating intricate components that enhance realism. The installations feature finely crafted details such as tiny cups, fabric curtains and working elements including small windows that provide access to the machine’s interface.

Weisse described the process as an exploration of precision and craftsmanship, noting that miniature environments can often feel more authentic than digital representations. He explained that the partnership with De’Longhi was driven by a shared attention to detail, particularly in how coffee is prepared and presented.

Through the project, the creators aim to highlight the role of the machine as the foundation of the coffee experience. By placing advanced coffee technology within these carefully constructed environments, the installation suggests that the quality of coffee produced at home can rival that of traditional cafés.

The World’s Smallest Coffee Shop offers visitors a unique perspective on how design, craftsmanship and technology can come together to reinterpret a familiar ritual, positioning the home coffee machine as a central part of the experience rather than just a functional tool.
