It Took All Of 24 Hours For Oppo To Be Up-ended By TCL In Sub $499 Smartphone Market
It took all of 24 hours for TCL Mobile to up-end Chinese brand Oppo’s plans to be a key player in the sub $500 smartphone market with the release of an all new TCL 10L competitor that has Android 10 OS vs the old Android 9 found in the Oppo A91 the TCL offering also has a superior camera.
Another big advantage that TCL has over Oppo is that they are delivering a Qualcomm 655 Snapdragon processor in the A10L Vs a MediaTek Helio P70 processor and an unknown Mali-G72 MP3 GPU in the Oppo A91.
The TCL device also has a larger screen with the TCL 10L having a large 6.53”-inch screen Vs a 6.40”-inch screen of the A91.
Oppo who is owned by BBK Electronics, launched the Realme brand smartphone brand in Australia late last year in an effort to compete with the Alcatel range of smartphones also made by archrival TCL.
The Realme brand which has since struggled to get traction released models that did not include full certification for the Australian market.
Michael Tran, Managing Director at OPPO Australia, refused our calls to explain the release of the Realme brand or why the Company claimed that they were the fastest growing smartphone brand in the world, an issue that was disputed by leading research Companies IDC and Gartner.
The TCL 10L has the Qualcomm® Snapdragon 665 processor that comes with an AI platform for fast performance and low power consumption, it also has a 6.53-inch FHD+ DotchTM display with a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio. TCL who are known for their display quality are the #1 TV supplier in the USA and #2 worldwide.
The Oppo A91 offering features a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen (with FHD+ resolution) that is powered by NXTVISION which is a dedicated display engine.
The TCL 10L also comes with four rear cameras, including a 64MP front camera, a wide-angle camera and a portrait camera along with a 16MP selfie camera that are also powered by new artificial intelligence technology that recognize and enhance scenes and objects for the best creations it also enhances images.
The rear of the A91 includes a 48MP main sensor and an 8-megapixel wide angle (f/2.25) lens, a 2-megapixel portrait lens (f/2.4) and a 2-megapixel mono (f/2.4) lens.
TCL 10L also features Stop Motion video technology.
Both devices will sell for $499 in Australia.
