Intel Brings $260,000 eSports Comp To Sydney

Intel has lined up its long-running and global pro-gaming tour to make an Australian debut in May.

The Intel Extreme Masters will see a record prize pool of $260,000 on offer as a line-up of local and international Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams face off at the Qudos Bank Arena on the 6th and 7th of May.

“Intel Extreme Masters is the perfect venue for Intel to bring our gaming and VR products directly to the gaming community around the world. We are proud, honored and can’t wait to kick off Intel Extreme Masters in Australia,” said Frank Soqui, general manager of the Virtual Reality and Gaming Group at Intel.

The Sydney event will serve as the kick off the twelfth season circuit of the global eSports event.

The recent IEM Katowice brought in over 1 million online viewers and an estimated 125,000 attendees.

According to Nick Vanzetti, Managing Director of ESL Australia, “bringing an industry-leading event to Australia is an exciting opportunity as we have some of the most passionate esports enthusiasts in the world. The prestige and legacy the Intel Extreme Masters brand brings mixed with the world’s best players is the perfect recipe for a historic weekend in eSports.”

Market research recently published by intelligence firm Newzoo has asserted that the global eSports industry will continue to grow into 2017, generating $696 million in revenue across the year and acting as a major driver for the video games industry.

Telstra is offering their customers access to an exclusive pre-sale from 9AM Thursday March 9 to 8pm AEDT Sunday March 12, 2017. For more details regarding the pre-sale, please visit www.telstra.com/sport
