IFA 2017: DJI Introduces New Mavic Pro And Phantom 4 Drones

DJI has delivered upgrades to two of its most popular drones at IFA 2017.

Both the new Mavic Pro Platinum and the Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian are examples of DJI delivering improvements and new features based on feedback from customers, senior product manager Paul Pan said.

“Starting with our Osmo Mobile Silver handheld stabilizer, DJI has been expanding its product variations to meet the different lifestyles and needs of consumers. Similarly, we’ve done the same with two of the most iconic DJI drone products, the Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro,” Pan said.

The Platinum version of the Mavic Pro will be able to fly for up to 30 minutes, an 11% increase on the previous model. DJI have also reduced the noise of the drone by 60%.

Both improvements were made through the use of new electronics speed controllers as well as redesigned propellers that can also be used with the existing Mavic Pro.

Changes to the Phantom 4 Pro in the new Obisidian version appear to be primarily cosmetic, with a “sleek matte-gray Obsidian color shell” as well as new magnesium, electroplated and anti-fingerprint coating on the gimbal of the drone.

DJI also announced a new ‘Sphere’ mode for its smallest drone, the Spark, which will allow users to capture panoramic photos with a fisheye effect.

The Mavic Pro Platinum is available for pre-order now from store.dji.com for RRP $1,699 and will begin shipping in September. The Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian will also be available in September for RRP $2,399 at the DJI Store website, DJI Flagship stores and authorised dealers.
