NFC, Full HD: Sony Touches Up Vaios

Sony is set to unleash VAIO Pro – the “world’s lightest touch ultrabook” (11-inch and 13-inch models), and VAIO Duo 13 – convertable tab/PC ultrabook, just announced at Computex Taipei, in Australia.

Both feature the vivid TRILUMINOS Display found on Sony’s Bravia TVs.There also two multimedia notebooks in Sony’s new line up – VAIO Fit and VAIO Fit E.
A Sony Australia spokesperson had just confirmed to us that Pro and Duos will feature Intel 4th gen Haswell processors; Fit and Fit E will run Intel’s Ivy Bridge.

With all models running Windows 8, touch is the theme of Sony’s new VAIOs, with every model featuring a bright HD IPS LCD touchscreen.

Sony has also kitted out all the new VAIOs with “one-touch” Near Field Communication (NFC), which also features on its new Smart TVs. It enables devices to communicate with other NFC enabled devices like smartphones, and exchange data.

The new mobile PCs also sport Sony’s X-Reality super resolution technology, ClearAudio+ and XLoud technologies on the audio front.
The Japanese maker says the newbies are suitable from “room backpacks to the boardroom”. They are priced at $999 for the VAIO Fit E to $1699 for the high end VAIO Duo 13, which looks like Microsoft Surface.

“Having a touch screen on every VAIO enables users to have the best experience of any Windows 8 device,” said Jun Yoon, Marketing Manager, Network Entertainment at Sony Australia.

“Combined with technologies such as TRILUMINOS Display and X-Reality, Sony is able to continually produce best-in-class products like the VAIO Pro – the world’s lightest touch ultrabook.”

VAIO Pro

Priced at $1299 for the VAIO Pro 11-inch  and $1399 for the 13-inch model, the Pros are the lightest touch ultrabooks, with casing made of carbon fibre normally used in aircraft and F1 cars.

The 11 incher weighs an impressive 0.87kg, and the Pro 13 1.06kg, including the battery.

VAIO Duo

Sony’s 13-inch VAIO Duo convertible PC/tablet slider ultrabook is an evolution of VAIO Duo 11 launched last year.

The  slider ultrabook has dual mode Keyboard or Tablet. Sliding the screen back in tablet mode reveals a keyboard and integrated touch pad. It has a 10-point multi touch screen and N-trig DuoSensePen to take handwritten notes.

Like all ultrabooks prized for their instant boot up, the Duo has “Quick resume” tool, that wakes from sleep mode in less than a second, and is in constant standby.
It has “up to” 11 hours battery life in tablet mode, Sony says. It also includes an 8MP rear camera.

VAIO Fit

One of the main features of the Full HD LCD ‘VAIO Fit’, which Sony says is an entertainment notebook, is its hybrid HDD with three times faster speeds, 750GB in storage and integrated flash-memory cache.

The new VAIO range will sell at Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and via Sony’s Centres, and Sony Kiosks.
