Half-Year TV Shipments Soar 7.3%

Global TV shipments have jumped 7.3% YoY for the first half of 2018, with almost all vendors posting significant growth bar Samsung Electronics.

As per Taiwanese trade publication, DigiTimes, global flat panel TV shipments hit 107 million units for the half-year.

Despite a 1.5% YoY decline, Samsung maintained its number one position, with TV shipments notching 18.32 million.

The Korean giant has significantly increased production of large size TVs, specifically 65-inch and above.

LG Electronics came in second place, posting a 6.3% YoY increase to 13.09 million units.

The company’s OLED range represented 730,000 units –  5.5% of total shipments – with the division eyeing 1.7 million units this year.

Chinese-based TCL saw half-year shipments soar a whopping 34% to 12.65 million units.

Hisense post a 10% YoY increase to 7.01 million units. Sharp followed with 4.66 million units, a notable 26.7% lift.

Global TV shipments are expected to spike between 3% and 4% in Q3, coupled with inventory increases in Q4.
