Google Still Eyeing Old Power Station As HQ – After 2021

Google has extended its lease of office space opposite the Sydney Star casino, despite also looking to eventually take over the historic but currently disused and somewhat ugly – but at this stage gambling free – White Bay Power Station, finished update pictured.

Landlord GPT Group has confirmed that Google Oz has extended its lease of the Star-bound site to 2021. Meanwhile UrbanGrowth NSW, master developer of the old power station site, says it will work with the private sector – including Google – to try to transform the power station and its surrounds.

The aim is to have Google join in redevelopment of the White Bay site to deliver a “global centre for high-tech jobs and innovation”. It says Google has leased 9850 square metres for a further 2.2 years, taking it to 2021.
