Google Pixel To Get Android O First, August Launch Tipped

The next major update for Google’s Android mobile OS has been tipped for an August rollout.

According to David Ruddock, managing editor of Android Police, Android 8.0 will become available to Google Pixel owners ahead of everyone else.

Citing sources, he claims it’ll land in the first two weeks of August this year.

Android O has yet to be given an official sweet-themed designation. However, it has been in the hands of developers for less than a month.

The big changes it’ll bring to the Android experience include a new picture-in-picture mode and new notification dots.

It’s also understood that Android O will bring a number of under-the-hood improvements that will see devices boot faster, load apps quicker and operate in a way that’s more secure than previous releases.

The last version of Android, Nougat, launched back in August of 2016.

According to the latest data from Android’s Developer dashboard, it now accounts for almost 10% of all active Android handsets.
