Google Pixel 8 Wins Best Smartphone Award At MWC 2024

Mobile World Congress (MWC) is currently finishing up this year’s festivities, with the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) announcing the yearly winners.

28 awards were presented across 6 categories by judges, four of which were in the Device section.

Best Smartphone was awarded to the Google Pixel 8 series, whereas Breakthrough Device Innovation was awarded to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra won Best Connected Consumer Device, and the Honor Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design took home Best in Show.

The Pixel 8 and 8 Pro phones beat out the iPhone 15 Pro series, the Galaxy S23 range, the Z Flip5, and the OnePlus Open/Oppo Find N3.

The award is for “outstanding performance, innovation and leadership” for devices launched between January and December 2023.

Shortlisted for the Breakthrough Innovation category was the silicon-carbon battery of the Magic V2, Google’s 7 years of updates commitment, and the AI imaging capabilities.

Judges ended up choosing Qualcomm’s latest chipset to win the award for “core hardware and software innovation within smartphone devices themselves.”

Triumphing in the Best Connected Consumer Device category was the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, beating out the Motorola Defy 2 with satellite communication, the HTC Vive XR Elite, the Huawei Watch Ultimate, and the RayNeo Air2 XR Glasses.

The Samsung tablet was found to be the best “everyday consumer electronic device or gadget that brings new and smart applications, efficiencies and functionality to the user, at home or on the move.”

Best in Show was chosen between products that had been launched during the Congress. The Magic V2 RSR Porsche Edition, was unveiled on February 25th in Barcelona in front of an international audience.

It was however, technically introduced in China first.
