Google has begun rolling out a Gemini update that lets users control TV settings using natural voice commands, starting with selected TCL Google TV models in the US.

The update expands Gemini beyond content recommendations, allowing users to adjust picture, sound and system settings by speaking into the remote or saying “Hey Google”.

Users can ask Gemini to change settings such as brightness, contrast, volume, picture mode and sound mode.

Google says the assistant can also respond to more natural requests, such as “The screen is too dark” or “I can’t hear the dialogue clearly,” and automatically adjust relevant TV settings.

The feature can also optimise settings for specific content.

For example, users can ask for a more cinematic experience for movie nights – or ask Gemini to open a specific settings menu without manually navigating through on-screen options.

The rollout starts with TCL’s 2025 QM9K, which launched last September as the first TV in the world to ship with Google Gemini AI built in.

Other models include the 2026 X11L, QM9L, QM8L and RM9L, with some reports also naming the QM7L and RM7L. The feature is initially limited to the US.

TCL is expected to have a 60-day exclusivity window before the capability expands to other Google TV devices.

Google has previously said Gemini will come to more Google TV products running Android 14 or later by late 2026, with devices requiring at least 2GB of RAM.

No Australian launch timing has been confirmed.
