Samsung appears to planning the launch of a watered-down version of the Galaxy S23, despite rumours it doesn’t exist.
Alleged renders of the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition (FE) have been released. It is expected to be released later this year.
Samsung previously skipped an FE version for the Galaxy S22 after launching an S21 FE. Instead the asking price for the S22 was lowered after the launch of the S23 last year.
It appears the same design will be kept from the S23 for the S23 FE, including the floating camera lens, centrally-aligned selfie camera, and slightly bulging sides. The renders showcase a black and white, but no doubt more colours can be expected.
Now, this is the first time of any news regarding the S23 FE, so details are minimal but here is what is known so far.
The FE will measure 158 x 76.3 x 8.2mm, whereas the measurements of the original S23 are 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6mm.
This doesn’t mean good news in the compact phones sector as the FE will be bigger than the S23, but there are hopes it will be better at heat dissipation.
It is expected Samsung will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, and rumours they will be using the in-house Exynos 2200 chip.
Samsung have signed a multi-year agreement with Qualcomm to power the phones, meaning there is a cache of high-end Exynos chips in the inventory.
There are also reports the FE will get an upgraded 50 megapixel main camera, a 4,500mAh battery, and a 120Hz OLED display, and be priced within brackets to compete against phones like the Google Pixel 7.
