‘One’ Saviour: HTC Sales Up 50%
The Taiwanese giant said May revenues rose 48% to NT$29bn or A$1bn, compared to April.
While the figure marked a 3% fall from May 2012, the massive jump is a sign that HTC’s massive marketing push on its One smartphone, which has sold around 5 million to date, has paid off.
This is the second month in a row sales have risen – the Taiwanese phone maker’s April revenues were up 24% to NT$19.6bn ($645m).
However, first quarter (Jan-Mar) profits fell by a massive 98%.
HTC One, its make-or-break 4.7″ Full HD display Android with its fantastic ‘Zoe’ camera, BlinkFeeds, and BoomSound dual speakers released globally in April, is widely tipped as one of the best smartphones around, and Smarthouse too thinks it’s a winner.
However, despite the latest rise in revenue, HTC executives are leaving the Taiwanese phone maker in droves – Chief Operating Officer Matthew Costello stepped down this week, reports Bloomberg, as have a slew of others at senior management levels including Asia CEO Lennard Hoornik.
Last month, CEO Peter Chou confirmed HTC would put additional marketing resources into pushing HTC One globally. And it seems an HTC One mini may be coming, which could further lift fortunes.
HTC’s total revenue from January – May 2013 was NT$91.4bn or $3.2bn.
