FBI Urges Olympians To Use Burner Phones

As anyone who’s watched The Wire knows, if you are in a high risk field and don’t want your personal information to be used for nefarious means, you best get yourself a burner phone.

This is the advice the FBI is giving all athletes and visitors heading to the Winter Olympics in Beijing, who are being urged to leave their phones at home and use one specially set up for this trip alone.

This comes with a litany of other warnings, about potential denial of service attacks, ransomware, malware, data theft, and “tracking tools” being planted on their phones.

“The FBI urges all athletes to keep their personal cell phones at home and use a temporary phone while at the Games,” it wrote.

The FBI assures there isn’t “any specific threat” against Olympics but nevertheless instructs all visitors to “remain vigilant”.

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics starts tomorrow, which over 3,000 athletes competing across 109 events.
