Three New 3D AVRs From Onkyo

The TX-NR708 and the TX-NR808 are 7.2-channel models, and the TX-NR1008 is a 9.2-channel model, which adds ISF video calibration controls for independent optimisation of each connected video source, and includes two extra audio channels and an additional 192 kHz/24-bit Burr Brown DAC to smoothly deal with the demands of multi-channel audio processing.

All three have an Ethernet port, full 1080p video upscaling using Faroudja’s DCDi Cinema technology, Dolby Pro Logic IIz and Audyssey DSX post-processing technologies, USB input for iPad/iPod/iPhone connection, and all include multi-room setup features. All units are THX and DLNA1.5 certified.

All units feature seven HDMI 1.4a connections, HDMI 1.4a connections in AVRs support 3D broadcast content in the Side-by-Side Horizontal and Top-and-Bottom formats. They join HDMI 1.4’s requirement to support Blu-ray disc and game content in frame-packing formats. All three of Onkyo’s new models support HDMI 1.4a’s Audio Return channel (ARC) function.

The three new AVRs offer transparent graphical OSD, which enables adjustment of AVR settings during a viewing session, and all have FLAC playback capabilities. In addition to FLAC the AVRs will playback MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and LPCM files. The receivers are also capable of accessing various streaming Internet radio services such as vTuner.
