Midea Targets Summer Power Bills With New Smart Air Conditioner Range
Midea has launched the Edith Series, its new range of air conditioners that combine AI-powered energy management, rapid cooling and smart home controls, in the lead up to a hot Australian summer.Â
The Edith Series has six reverse-cycle split-system models with the company claiming its Heat/Cool Flash technology can lower room temperatures by 6°C in just 10 minutes.Â
Another feature, its AI ECOMASTER system, uses algorithms trained on billions of data points to maintain more consistent temperatures and reduce wasted energy.
Sensitive to the cost of living and higher summer energy bills, Midea is also offering energy monitoring through its SmartHome app, which allows users to track electricity consumption and manage their air conditioning remotely.
Midea’s Edith Series includes Wi-Fi connectivity and voice control compatibility with Google Home and Amazon Alexa. A temperature sensor built into the remote control works with the Follow Me feature to help regulate room conditions based on the temperature around the user rather than relying solely on the indoor unit’s sensor.

The handy Wind Avoid Me function redirects air away from occupants, while automatic vertical and horizontal swing distributes cooled or heated air throughout the room.
The range also features air-cleaning capabilities. Its I-Clean Pro system uses a six-step evaporator cleaning process, followed by high-temperature steam treatment at 56°C for more than 30 minutes. According to Midea, the process reduces bacteria trapped on the coils by 99.9%.
The Edith range is built on Midea’s Prime Guard platform, which includes a graphene coating, refrigerant leakage detection and automatic restart functionality. The company says the system is designed to operate in outdoor temperatures of up to 50°C, a consideration for Australian conditions during extreme heat.
Outdoor Silent mode is another feature, with Midea claiming it reduces outdoor unit noise by between three and seven decibels.
The new range covers cooling capacities from 2.1kW to 8.0kW, with heating capacities ranging from 2.5kW to 8.7kW.
Pricing starts at $899 for the 2.1kW cooling model, rising to $999 for the 2.5kW unit, $1,299 for the 3.5kW model, $1,699 for the 5.2kW system and $1,899 for the 7.0kW version. The flagship 8.0kW cooling model is priced at $2,399.
The new Midea Edith Series is available now.
