Leading PC Company Acer, who has been carving up the Australian education market is set to release a military grade notebook that has already won several awards in Europe, for its durability.
Called the B117 the device is set to go on sale for sub $500, described as ideal for schools the device can be laid flat on the desk it also has a unique light system that allows teachers to track answers to questions.
The Acer TravelMate B117 has been described has an affordable Windows notebook that is as “tough as nails”.
The device has an 11.5 inch display and an Intel Braswell low-power processor.
It comes with 4GB of RAM, Windows 10 Pro software, and a ruggedized case and spill resistant keyboard.
Acer says the TravelMate B117 also has a hinge that lets you tilt the screen back 180 degrees so it lies flat against a desk or table, while still allowing you to use the keyboard.
There’s also an LED light in the lid that can glow different colors to correspond with answers to questions — allowing teachers to see at a glance how kids responded to questions on multiple choice quizzes or see if kids have indicated that they’ve finished an assignment.
The notebook measures about 0.9 inches thick and weighs about 3 pounds, features 802.11ac WiFi, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, and an HDMI port as well as a Precision touchpad, a webcam with support for HDR capture and dual digital microphones.
Acer will offer models with Intel Celeron or Pentium processors, up to 4GB of RAM, and hard drive or eMMC flash storage options.
