DJI Develops New Drones For Telcos

Drone vendor DJI has revealed new drone technology that will see the airborne devices capable of detecting and measuring the signal strength of wireless networks.

Developed in collaboration with Chinese telco China Comservice and leveraging new Skycell technology, the new drone is being pitched as a replacement for the manpower usually required to locate problem spots in mobile networks.

DJI say it will allow telecom carriers to scan any area to quickly find interference sources and improve efficiency.

Wider adoption of drones by enterprise and government agencies is expected to fuel future growth in the drone market alongside growing consumer demand.

Research firms have previously predicted that drone shipments will grow 40% to almost three million units in 2017 while revenues generated by the products will grow 35% to over US$6 billion.
