Samsung S5 To Outsell iPhone 5s

Samsung S5 To Outsell iPhone 5sApple iPhone 5s is currently the biggest selling smartphone in Australia – but that’s about to change.

Figures compiled by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech seen by Channel News show the iPhone 5s was the largest selling phone in April and May on 13%, followed by Samsung Galaxy S4 (10%) and Galaxy S5 (8.3%).
The new 5 inch S5 went on sale in mid April but has not yet reached its peak, and is likely to surpass iPhone 5s sales in June, to become the No. 1 selling smartphone, figures suggest.
Purchases of the Samsung S5 has increased 211% since the three months to April, last.

Sales of Apple’s hero has declined rapidly since Christmas down 20%, having reached its peak during the holidays.
Now the 5″ Galaxy S5 is out, it seems everyone wants to try it.

Down under, Apple are not increasing sales but rather maintaining existing customer loyalty, compared to Android which has cornered the market, gaining new smartphone users due to its simplicity of use.

The latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel shows Android’s growth stayed pretty even at 64% marketshare in Australia while Apple also maintained its No. 2 position at 28% during March – April.

Samsung has four phones in the top 10 smartphones in Oz, while Apple has three (5S, 5S and 5) and Sony Xperia Z also makes an appearance at No. 6 – the only other vendor to make it into the listing.

In relation to the much talked about ‘iPhone 6’, the rumored new device is likely to create an awesome buzz and wont convert many Android customers, but will entice existing Apple users who are big spenders and may even fork out extra money to get out of their existing plan and go to newer model.

In the US and UK, Samsung Galaxy S5 still lags behind iPhone 5.

“The Samsung Galaxy S5 has had some success in attracting former iPhone owners across Europe,” says Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

“In general, consumers buying the Galaxy S5 were primarily attracted by its large screen size. This is something Apple is likely to address with the rumored larger screen iPhone 6 launch expected in late September.”
