The latest Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptops just announced at CES 2022 continue to improve already awesome units.
Still coming in two sizes – 15.6″ and 17.3″, with either a 1080p or QHD display – the chassis design has been refined, losing the angular corners.
You can also choose between two processor types. Either go with the 12th gen Intel processor, from a Core i5 12700H up to a Core i7 12700H, or pick AMD’s Ryzen 6000-series, from a Ryzen 5 6600H up to a Ryzen 7 6800H.
Both can take up to Nvidia’s new RTX 3070 Ti graphics chip.
While both seem pretty on par, the AMD-based unit has the latest and fastest internal gadgetry, supporting DDR5 RAM – up to 32GB using two SODIMM slots – clocked at 4800MHz.
The Intel uses DDR4 RAM, clocked at 3200MHz.
Both feature two M.2 SSD slots, though the Intel supports two PCIe 4.0 SSDs, with a SATA HDD, while the AMD supports one PCI 4.0 M.2 SSD, one PCIe 3.0 M.2 SSD and one SATA HDD.
The Intel includes a Thunderbolt 4, as well as an HDMI 2.1 port, three USB-A ports, a power plug, an ethernet jack and a headphone jack. The AMD is the same, except it switches out the Thunderbolt 4 port for a USB 4 Type-C and Thunderbolt 3.
The 15.6″ Nitro 5 with Intel will ship in the US in March at US$1049.99. The 17.3″ will go out in April at US$1099.99.
As for the AMD, that will begin shipping in the US in May, starting at US$1099.99 and hitting US$1149.99 for the 17.3″.
