Cambridge Audio products are no longer sold by a large percentage of Australian audio retailers, now the UK Company is rebranding with media organisations in Australia not given a reason for the sudden move with questions, also raised over the current financial strength of the Company.

The brand when it was popular with retailers was distributed by Melbourne based Synergy Audio, with the Company that was established in 1968 with products such as their legendary P40 amplifier and their Evo all-in-one system generating sales in Australia alongside other popular UK brands.

Cambridge have not said how much branding Company ‘Only’ charged them for the brand makeover which appears to be more a font change.

A search online reveals that retailers including Vinyl Revival and Chinese online retailer Ali Express are ranging the Companies products.

With over 50 years in the audio business it appears that Cambridge as they now want to be called, is more an online product than a mainstream brand sold by retailers such as Rio Sound & Vision, Tivoli, Len Wallis or West Coast Hi

James Johnson-Flint, owner of Cambridge Audio was quoted recently claiming “When I took over Cambridge Audio in 1994, it was a brand with a rich legacy that had fallen into neglect. I’m incredibly proud of the place it’s since become and of the phenomenal, joyful team we have today. Cambridge is ready for a new era, and I’m confident that this rebrand, together with many exciting new products we have coming, will connect our passion for music to an even wider audience.”

He gave no reason why the Company appears to have no interest in specialist audio dealers with mass retailers who are stocking the likes of Denon also snubbing the brand.

Using a branding agency in the UK the Company the Companies marketing director Nick Udal claims that the move “Is a new chapter, a statement of intent. It enables us to connect with listeners in new ways, from diversifying our product development to supporting cultural movements which celebrate their love of music.”

He has also failed to explain how this will be achieved in Australia when they only have limited retailers stocking their product.

Currently Chinese brand WiiM is gaining sales at the expense of the likes of Cambridge Audio who have not revealed their latest financials with retailers clamouring to stock the WiiM product ran that now includes amps, streamers and speakers.

The Company is keeping the Made by Music tagline while tarting up their logo in an effort to stay in touch with their past glory days.
