BREAKING NEWS: Convoy CEO Geoff Mathews Dead

Geoff Mathews the CEO of Convoy International has passed away suddenly due to complications following a recent illness.

A veteran of the specialist channel and a larger than life man who pioneered the industry during the past 45 years will be missed said several specialist dealers who ChannelNews spoke to earlier today.

Len Wallis of Len Wallis Audio said that he has known Mathews for all those 45 years.

“He was a pioneer, a man who was not only knowledgeable about two channel audio, but a man who when he stumbled, got up and got on with the job of delivering some of the pioneering audio products sold in Australia”.

“The big question now is who will fill his shoes as he was the heart and sole of the Convoy business”.

In a statement issued by Convoy earlier today the Company said ““It is with great sadness that we announce that Geoff Matthews, CEO of Convoy International, passed away today in Engadine NSW, due to unexpected complications from a recent illness. The entire Convoy family mourns this loss. On behalf of our management team and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Matthews family. Geoff was a larger-than-life figure who brought his remarkable passion, energy, and decades of experience in the audio industry to the business.”

Steve Burton, General Manager at Convoy said” “With the passing of Geoff Matthews, Convoy has suffered a major loss. Notwithstanding that loss, the Matthews Family has made clear their wishes that Geoff would want Convoy to continue and to prosper. The Management Team will honour this wish, and uphold the legacy that Geoff nurtured and leaves behind. The Family & Management Team will continue to consider in a deliberative way how best to maximise Convoy’s performance over the long term.”

Funeral Service details for Geoff Mathews will be announced shortly.

Mathews established Convoy International in 1965 he became a leading importer, distributor and marketer of a wide range of high-fidelity loudspeakers, headphones, docks and speakers for personal audio devices and computers, advanced home audio components and audio-video digital accessories.

Today Convoy’s Brand portfolio includes Bluesound, NAD Electronics, JBL Synthesis and Studio Monitors. Cary Audio, PSB Loudspeakers, Sonitus Acoustics, Music Hall and IsoAcoustics.
