Blackberry Finds New Life In Oz

If you thought the game was up for onetime mobile phone leader Blackberry – its sales driven into insignificance by the overwhelming success of Apple and Samsung – think again.

Blackberry has been evolving into a major producer of enterprise software and is claiming growing momentum in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

New clients Down Under include Macquarie University, SIRVA, Buddle Findlay and Catholic Church Insurance, Blackberry announced yesterday.

Such clients are “collectively meeting hundreds of different mobility and security requirements, regardless of which devices are used in their organisations,” the Canadian company said yesterday.

Macquarie Uni. for instance employs Blackberry’s AtHoc hybrid cloud system to deliver “incident-ready” security for 40,000 students and 3000 staff. The system is also said to be used by Australian Defence Forces.
