BenQ Facing Chronic Supply Issues, Dealers Not Happy Over Costco Ranging

Projector and monitor manufacturer BenQ have admitted that due to the Coronavirus they are facing chronic supply issues for their 4K projectors with specialist dealers now having to find an alternate supplier a move that could push up the price of a job.

The BenQ specialist channel are also upset that the maker of 4K projectors has expanded sales at Costco and JB Hi Fi.

One specialist dealer said “We are looking at dropping BenQ because they are trying to sell the same product to specialist dealers that are being sold at JB Hi Fi and Costco. This makes it hard to compete” they said.

Country Manager Martin Moeller told ChannelNews that “It could be months” before the Taiwanese Company has supply for the both the specialist channel as well as Costco and JB Hi Fi.

Currently JB Hi Fi is still selling the BenQ W5700 True 4K Home Entertainment Projector with HDR-PRO for $4,195.

Costco is selling the same projector for $3,664.

According to Moeller back orders are mounting up from both the specialist channel and mass channel retailers and there is no certainty as to when the Company can resupply.

He also defended the supply of the Companies 4K projector which some dealers are claiming are not ‘True 4K’ when compared to what a Sony projector outputs.

According to sources Matt Walker who has only been at BenQ for 12 months after joining the Company from Interdyn as Regional Sales Manager has quit with some insiders claim that he was not happy that the Company was expanding sales of their projectors to the likes of Costco when he was trying to expand their specialist channel sales.

“We have been in Costco overseas for many years and I don’t see why this is an issue” said Moeller.

Another issue bubbling away in the specialist channel is whether BenQ projectors deliver optimum 4K.

According to one specialist channel executive Sony’s SXRD projector deliver 1,500 lumens 6000 hours of battery life and native 4K resolution of 4096 x 2160 (8.8 million pixels).
The BenQ projector deliver 4K UHD 3840×2160 resolution with 8.3 million pixels.

The W5700 also utilises the new generation 0.47” single-DMD DLP technology and according to Moeller complies with the 4K Association standard for $K resolution output.

“This is the old argument of native 4K Vs True 4K resolution and as far as BenQ are concerned we comply”.
