Aussie Web Downloads Double
Australia’s Internet downloads have more than doubled over the past two years, largely reflecting the growing market for online video, according to the latest report from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
Australians downloaded nearly 2.2 million terabytes of data from April to June this year, compared to one million terabytes in the same period of 2014, ACMA says.
Some 92pc of the data was delivered by fixed-line broadband. Fixed-line telephone subscriptions continued to decline (down 4pc), while mobile phone and Internet subscriptions were up 2.6 and 4.5 per cent respectively.
Meanwhile, the volume of data downloaded over mobile handsets increased by 69 percent between the June 2015 and June 2016 quarters. In the six months to June 2016, 63 percent of adult Australians watched online video content, ACMA estimates.
