Apple To Roll Out New AirPod Update

Apple is getting ready to roll out major updates for thie AirPod buds which some say make users look “gorky” due to the way that they hang down from the ear.

The first of two AirPod updates is expected to land later this year, and will feature built-in Siri functionality that can be summoned via voice command, according to a Thursday report by Bloomberg which cited anonymous sources.

With that new model, AirPod users will be able to say “Hey Siri” to activate the virtual assistant. The updated earbuds will also feature an improved chip for managing Bluetooth connections.

The second update is a water-resistant model that will be able to with stand splashes rain, and sweaty workouts, according to the report, which pegged its release for 2019 at the earliest.

AirPods are one of Apple’s most popular products, and the company has routinely seen its supply run dry due to supply constraints and high demand.

In August, research firm NPD Group estimated that AirPods have accounted for 85 percent of all wireless headphone sales in the US since their release in December 2016.
