Apple Reportedly Testing A Screenless Fitness Band
Apple is reportedly developing a new screenless fitness tracker that could take on the likes of Whoop and Google’s Fitbit Air.
In a shift from a wearable with smartphone features to one with health and fitness benefits, Apple has reportedly been exploring the screen-free concept for months and has developed multiple prototypes though it remains in early stages.
The proposed device is said to consist of a thin fabric band with a sensor-equipped computing module positioned on the wrist. Unlike the Apple Watch, it would not feature a display, with the device instead designed to collect health and fitness data that can be seen via iPhone and Apple Health.
It’s a concept that would put Apple directly into competition with other screenless wearables such as Whoop and the recently launched Fitbit Air.

Whoop has helped establish the category by focusing on continuous screenless health monitoring, sleep and recovery data, without notifications, on the wrist. Fitbit Air has taken a similar approach.
The category is gaining momentum in 2026, as more screenless devices are on offer for consumers who are interested in health tracking but don’t want another screen in their lives.
Apple already offers many health and fitness capabilities through its Apple Watch, including heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking and workout data. However, a screenless product would be a new form and could appeal to those not wanting to wear a traditional smartwatch.

The new product would be in line with Apple’s increasing focus on health and wellness data and insights, with recent Apple Watch models introducing features aimed at areas like readiness and recovery.
Consumers should not expect to see an Apple fitness band in stores anytime soon. Reports indicate that the project is still under investigation and may never actually reach the market. If Apple does move forward, the device is reportedly unlikely to launch before 2028.
That potential timeline reflects the experimental nature of the project and Apple would no doubt need to work out how such a device would complement its existing Apple Watch wearable.
