Apple puts brakes on e-car plan
Apple has shut down some elements of its project to build an electric self-driving car and laid off several dozen employees, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Apple has never publicly acknowledged that it has been working on an e-car, but observers said to be in the know have claimed software and automotive experts, as well as autonomous-driving technology engineers, have been involved in the development.
Bloomberg reported in July that Apple was changing its plans in favour of development of an autonomous-driving system.
Apple would be up against much longer established efforts including those by Google and Tesla, while traditional carmakers such as General Motors, Ford and BMW are also working toward driverless cars. Many observers believe Apple may do better working on its plans for internal electronic systems for e-cars by all brands.
