Apple App Store Faced Significant Outage
Millions of people faced an Apple App Store outage earlier today. Users began to report issues around 2am (AEDT) on Thursday, as referenced by a spike in reports on Downdetector, a site which tracks outages.
The outage prevented users from downloading apps, updating existing apps on their devices and also searching for things within Apple’s app ecosystem.
Some users took to various social media platforms to complain about the outage.
“Won’t let me install anything, it just loads for a sec and then stops. Also can’t view Payment and Shipping in settings on iPhone nor Desktop,” one user wrote during the outage.
When users pressed the “Get” button to install an app during the outage, the icon swirled briefly to indicate that it was loading. However, it then would revert to “Get,” leaving users unable to install the app they wanted.
The outage lasted for an hour before users reported that the issue was resolved.
Apple did not officially acknowledge the App Store outage, but it did list the Subscription Purchase and Volume Purchase Program as down.
However, Apple subsequently categorized them as “Available” with a note saying “Resolved Outage,” mentioning that “Users may have been unable to sign in.”
Apple may have implemented a fix before even acknowledging an outage was happening.
