Another Apple AirTag Rival Could Be On The Way
Chinese technology firm Xiaomi appears to be preparing to expand its accessory range with a new Bluetooth tracker. The device, reportedly named Xiaomi Tag, is believed to be designed to rival Apple’s AirTag and other trackers compatible with Google Find My Device network.
A recent leak shared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo suggests the Xiaomi Tag is close to release. While regulatory documents have already listed the device, little is confirmed about its capabilities or pricing. According to the leak, the tracker could debut alongside new wearable and audio accessories such as the Xiaomi Watch 5 (or S5) and Buds 6, potentially unveiled at the Xiaomi 17 Ultra launch event scheduled for 26 December 2025.
Though official specifications remain unannounced, the Xiaomi Tag is expected to support UWB (Ultra Wideband) technology. This would allow highly precise location tracking at close range – a feature already offered by AirTag and some Google-compatible trackers. If Xiaomi provides full offline tracking support through the Google network, the Tag could deliver a locating experience similar to AirTag, but without requiring users to commit to Apple’s ecosystem.
Should Xiaomi rely on the Google tracking network, the Tag will enter a market that already includes devices such as Chipolo Loop, Pebblebee Clip 5 and Motorola Moto Tag. What might set Xiaomi’s offering apart is its usual pricing strategy. A UWB-enabled tracker with Google-network compatibility priced more affordably in AUD could appeal strongly to Android users seeking reliable item tracking without paying AirTag-level prices.

The timing feels particularly suitable. With growing support for UWB in Android handsets and the Google tracking network becoming more stable, Xiaomi could deliver an attractive AirTag alternative for a mainstream Android audience. If the Tag is priced competitively, it might encourage widespread adoption of item tracking among Android device owners.
More concrete information is likely to emerge when the Xiaomi 17 Ultra event takes place later this month. At that time, we will hopefully learn official details such as exact specifications, pricing in AUD, and whether the Xiaomi Tag will integrate seamlessly with the Google Find My Device network.
