Home theatre control can be a hassle when multiple sources are involved, but a new device called Amp Genie aims to streamline the experience with automatic input switching and system configuration.

With no buttons, apps, or remotes required, the signal-sensing controller automatically detects any connected audio source, whether it’s a turntable, CD player, streamer or gaming console.

The device instantly powers the AVR, selects the correct input, applies DSP settings and sets the volume, eliminating HDMI-CEC guesswork.

While HDMI-CEC has promised seamless switching for years, it often fails the moment a non-HDMI device enters the mix.

Amp Genie plugs that gap by giving legacy and analogue sources the same simplicity as modern streaming boxes.

Developed by long-time smart-home integrator Brian Staller, the device is pitched as a practical alternative to full automation ecosystems such as Control4 or Crestron, which remain costly and overly complex for many households.

The unit supports all major stereo formats – analog RCA, coaxial SPDIF and Toslink optical – and includes a pre-programmed IR library for 11 leading AVR brands, including Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Anthem, Arcam, Sony, Pioneer, Onkyo and AudioControl.

Startup and response times are both under one second, and an optional auto-off feature can power down the AVR after use.

A built-in top-mount cradle also provides tidy placement for compact streamers such as Sonos Port, WiiM, Bluesound and Arylic.
