Amazon has launched a new addition to its streaming lineup in Australia, unveiling the Fire TV Stick HD, a slimmer and more portable device aimed at both home and travel use.

Set to ship locally from April 29, the device is priced from $79 and is available for pre-order now via Amazon, with broader retail availability planned through JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys.

The Fire TV Stick HD is around 30% smaller than its predecessor, designed to sit more discreetly behind TVs and fit more easily into crowded HDMI ports. A key update is its ability to draw power directly from a TV’s USB port, removing the need for a wall adapter in most setups.

Performance has also been improved, with Amazon claiming more than 30% faster speeds compared to the previous HD model. The device includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 support to deliver more reliable connectivity.

The launch also introduces an updated Fire TV interface, focused on faster navigation, improved content recommendations and greater customisation, including the ability to pin more apps to the home screen.

Amazon says the compact design makes the stick particularly suited for travel, fitting easily into a bag or pocket while still delivering a full streaming experience.

An accessibility-focused Adaptive Display feature is expected to roll out in the coming months, offering enhanced on-screen readability through scalable text and interface elements.
