Acer Unveils New Chromebooks & ‘Headless’ Chromebox For Schools

Re-affirming its commitment to the education industry, Acer has unveiled two new Chromebooks, plus a new ‘headless’ Chromebox.

Acer’s new products were revealed at education technology trade show, BETT, in London this week.

Australian pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.

Acer Chromebook 11

[Standard Display] – From US$279.99

[Touch Screen] – From US$299.99

The Chromebook 11 features an 11.6-inch HD resolution display, in either a touch or standard screen.

Displaying its durability – essential for the education space – Acer claims the device can sustain drops of up to 122cm, and over 60kg of forced placed on top of it. The device features an IP-41 rating, for some level of liquid resistance.

The Chromebook 11 is powered by a quad or dual-core Celeron processor, with either 32GB or 64GB eMMC storage, and 4GB or 6GB of RAM.

It includes two USB-C 3.1 ports, and features a microSD card reader.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 are included, with a 4G model tipped to be available later.

Acer Chromebook Spin 11

From US$349

The Chromebook Spin 11 is only available in a touch screen, emphasising its usage as a tablet. The device features an 11.6-inch HD resolution screen (1366×768), underpinned by a 360-degree hinge.

Available with either quad-core Pentium or Celeron processors, the Spin 11 incorporates either a 32GB or 64GB onboard eMMC storage, and 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM. A built-in microSD card is also present.

Acer claims the device boasts 10 hours of battery life.

The Spin 11 features 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A 3.0 ports, plus Bluetooth 4.2.

Acer Chromebox CX13

Acer’s new ‘headless’ Chromebox CX13 will run on an 8th generation ‘Coffee Lake’ Intel Core desktop processor. The device will feature a USB-C port, plus 5 USB-A ports (reportedly both 2.0 and 3.1).

The new Chromebox will feature a microSD card slot, HDMI port and Ethernet jack – which is further complimented by an optional VESA mounting kit, which mounts to the back of the monitor for easy kiosk style set-up.

RAM and storage specifications are yet to be announced.
