Big Data Bundle And Free Presto As Telstra Take On Netflix
Under pressure from Optus who are now attracting thousands of new customers with their free Fetch TV and unlimited broadband deals, Telstra has moved to shore up their mobile offer as several vendors roll out new mobile packages.
They have also moved to take on Netflix.
Effective from April 9 Telstra is boosting the value of their mobile plans to include what they are describing as “unprecedented data bonuses” for customers signing up to BYO and Casual plans.
And in a move aimed at putting a dent in Netflix ambitions, Telstra is also including a bonus 6-month subscription for Presto.
Depending on a chosen plan level Telstra customers will get a bonus data boost ranging between 500MB and 7GB per month for the life of their contract to use in Australia.
From Thursday 9 April, new customers taking up one of the following Mobile Accelerate Plans with a new handset will enjoy a boost to their data allowance for the life of their contract:
The details are below.
. Customers taking up the $95 Mobile Accelerate Plan receiving a bonus 3.5GB of data for a total data allowance of 6GB per month to use in Australia. (Min cost $2280 over 24 months, excess data 3c/MB).
. And, customers taking up the $130 Mobile Accelerate Plan receiving a bonus 7GB of data for a total data allowance of 10GB per month to use in Australia. (Min cost $3120 over 24 months, excess data 3c/MB).
. Customers on lower-end handset plans will also enjoy Bonus Data boosts of 500MB ($55 Plan) and 1GB ($70 Plan).
. Telstra is also helping more customers experience the streaming video revolution, by giving people taking up new mobile plans a bonus 6-month Presto subscription. Customers can enjoy Presto on their compatible desktop, laptop, TV (via Chromecast), tablet or mobile.
. Small business customers taking up a $65 or above Easy Share Business Plan with a new handset will also receive bonus data ranging between 500MB a 6GB to use in Australia depending on the plan level they take up. (Min cost $1560 over 24 months, excess data 3c/MB). The data boost is available for a limited time to new and re-contracting small business and consumer customers taking up these plans.
Telstra Executive Director Mobiles, John Chambers, said Telstra wanted to give customers more value, more entertainment and more freedom to when accessing content on the web from a mobile phone.
“We want to cater to our customers’ ever-growing love of sharing, surfing and streaming while on the go. That’s why we’re offering more data on some of our most popular plans”.
The Presto subscription can be accessed from a desktop, laptop, TV (via Chromecast), tablet or mobile.”
He said “With the 6 months’ bonus Presto subscription, customers can watch a great range of TV shows and movies ondemand and on-the-go, such as Modern Family, Sons of Anarchy, Ray Donovan and Girls,” Mr Chambers said.
Telstra said that data charges do apply when streaming Presto over mobile networks.
