iPhone 6 Fever Grips Telstra’s Syd, Melb, Bris Stores
Australia is the first place in the world to see iPhones go on sale from 8am tomorrow, with plenty of activities taking place at select telco stores as we covered earlier today.
Telstra says the atmosphere outside its stores will be electric, not just because of the excitement each new iPhone launch delivers, but because of Telstra’s new LED light wall.
Effectively a giant screen, it will link Telstra customers waiting at its flagship Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane stores with larger than life photos of fans all sharing their excitement in the countdown to 8am when the new iPhones finally go on sale at retail.
Sydney Telstra customers will also be right across the road from the Apple Store, where the queue will likely be longer and where we’re yet to see whether Apple will put on any free treats as Telstra and Vodafone are planning on doing.
To amp things up a bit, Telstra has employed the winners of the fourth season of Australia’s Got Talent, the ‘Justice Crew’, to provide some free live entertainment for Sydney queuers.
Andrew Volard, Telstra’s Director of Services, has also promised “star treatment” for “Apple superfans”, stating: “Nothing evokes that ‘new phone feeling’ like the arrival of a new iPhone. We want to help our customers celebrate that feeling with an event they won’t forget complete with a performance from one of Australia’s hottest acts.”
It’s not just free coffee and a free performance by the Justice Crew either – Telstra says it is “rewarding diehard fans with a number of exciting surprises and prizes in the interactive and connected queue. Queuers will be able to kick back and soak up the atmosphere in comfy beanbag chairs, listening to DJ-played music while sipping a coffee.”
Telstra also remembers to remind us all that iPhone 6 or 6 Plus customers who take up an “eligible” 24 month plan will also get the Telstra New Phone Feeling benefit at no extra cost, with the normal cost being $10 per month.
The offer allows you to trade up to a new smartphone after just 12 months without having to wait for their 24-month term to end, with the catch being that you have to your iPhone 6 in good working order and take up a new 24 month handset payment and mobile plan.
So, if you’re going to Telstra’s store tomorrow from 7am or perhaps even earlier, you now know what to expect!
