Microsoft Changes Windows Name As They Chase Traction In Smartphone Market
The Company who is close to launching the last numbered version of their Windows OS has confirmed that several versions of the OS will be introduced in July.
ChannelNews is tipping July 27th as the launch date.
Windows 10 Home will ship on most home PCs and laptops, it includes all of the new Windows 10 features including the new Microsoft Edge browser which has been slammed by several leading reviewers.
It will also include Windows Hello face-recognition, and built-in universal apps.
A Windows 10 Pro edition that is similar to Windows 8 Pro will also be launched.
It will include the ability for businesses to deliver connectivity to domains and internal networks users will also get Windows Update for Business.
Windows 10 will be available for PCs, immediately and some months later for phones, tablets, and the Xbox One.
Windows 10 Mobile is the official replacement name, the new OS will include new touch-optimized versions of Office and support for the new Continuum for Phone feature.
Still not revealed are specifics of free upgrade program, fate of virtualization users
As with prior versions of windows, Windows 10 Enterprise, Mobile Enterprise, and Education fall under Microsoft’s Volume Licensing program. “Paths” for upgrades will be made available, with the company claiming that they will make more information available closer to the July launch of the operating system.
Not included in the count are versions of Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise for industry devices like ATMs, retail point of sale, handheld terminals, industrial robotics, or Windows 10 IoT Core devices. Also not discussed is how the company will handle virtualization users, such as users of Parallels or similar solutions.
