Online Ads Poised To Overtake Television Spending By 2017
Media-buying outfit ZenithOptimedia said global ad spending is projected to reach US$531 billion this year. Online video is now growing faster than any other digital category or subcategory, rising 33 percent in 2014, and is forecast to grow 29 percent a year through 2017, Zenith said.
Players such as Facebook are targeting big companies to market products via online videos along with Google’s YouTube as outlets for the fastest growing category of Internet ads
London-based Ampere predicts a new advertising arms race between the two rivals, already neck-and-neck in terms of audience size, with around 1.4 billion monthly active users for Facebook and 1.3 billion for YouTube.
Zenith expects mobile advertising to more than double its share of global ad spending between 2014 and 2017, to 12.9 percent. It would contribute 70 percent of growth in all advertising spending over that period.
