Huawei Unveils Circular Android Wear Smartwatch At MWC

Huawei Unveils Circular Android Wear Smartwatch At MWCRunning Android Wear, the Huawei Watch sports a classic circular design, in the same vein as LG’s G Watch R and recently released Urbane, housing a 1.4″ touch-sensitive 400 x 400 AMOLED display.

Compatible with smartphones running Android 4.3 or higher, beneath the hood the Huawei Watch is equipped with a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz processor, 4 GB storage, 512 MB RAM and Bluetooth 4.1.

Wearers can receive SMS, email, calendar, app and phone call notifications, with the watch also featuring a heart rate monitor sensor, six-axis motion sensor and barometer sensor, capable of tracking the number of calories burned, to heart rate, climbing height, steps taken and distance travelled.

The Huawei Watch has a crown, frame and hinge built from scratch-resistant cold-forged stainless steel, and comes in gold, silver and black.

“We have responded to consumers’ requests from around the world asking for a smartwatch featuring a timeless design that is truly smart from within,” commented Richard Yu, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO.

“As the first smartwatch in our expanding line of premium wearable products, the Huawei Watch was designed and created to enhance and be part of the consumers’ everyday lives.”

While Android Wear smartwatches got off to something of a slow start last year, new additions to the market have been steadily emerging thus far in 2015, with manufacturers doubtless looking to get a foot in the door before the launch of the Apple Watch.

The Huawei Watch will be available in over 20 countries, including Australia, with its availability and pricing to be announced at a future date in each of the local markets.
