Carphone Warehouse Cyber-Attack: Details Of Up 2.4 M Customers Potentially Accessed
Personal data, including name, address, date of birth and bank details of up to 2.4 million customers may have been accessed, along with the encrypted credit card data of up to 90,000 customers.
Carphone Warehouse has revealed that the attack was discovered on August 5, announcing via a statement that the “IT systems of a division of Carphone Warehouse in the UK had been breached by a sophisticated cyber-attack”.
The division operates the OneStopPhoneShop.com, e2save.com and Mobiles.co.uk websites, along with providing a number of services to iD Mobile, TalkTalk Mobile, Talk Mobile, and to certain customers of Carphone Warehouse.
Carphone Warehouse stated that it took immediate action to secure the systems, launching an investigation with a cyber-security firm to determine what data was affected, with customers who may have been impacted now being contacted.
“We take the security of customer data extremely seriously, and we are very sorry that people have been affected by this attack on our systems,” Sebastian James, Dixons Carphone group chief executive, commented.
“We are, of course, informing anyone that may have been affected, and have put in place additional security measures.”
