 While Apple hasn’t officially locked in a date for the event, BuzzFeed has reported sources familiar with the company’s plans as stating it intends to hold a special event on the week beginning September 7, with September 9 being the most likely date.
Should Apple lock in September 9 for the unveiling of its next-gen iPhones, it would fall on the same day as its event last year, at which it unveiled the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, along with its first entry into the smartwatch category, the Apple Watch. Bloomberg has previously reported sources as stating that Apple’s upcoming iPhone will, like its current generation iPhone, come in two sizes, 4.7″ and 5.5″, and will feature Apple’s Force Touch technology. Apple’s Force Touch tech, which is a feature of the Apple Watch, can distinguish between a light tap and a deep press, which Apple states triggers “access to a range of contextually specific controls”. The Wall Street Journal has previously reported that Apple is asking suppliers to manufacture between 85 million and 90 million units combined of two new iPhone models, citing people familiar with the matter, which compares to its initial production run last year for its current generation iPhones of 70 million to 80 million units. Apple could also use the event to unveil its next-gen iPads and next-gen Apple TV, BuzzFeed reported sources as stating, citing multiple sources familiar with Apple’s plans as stating that Apple TV is currently a part of Apple’s plans for the event. |
