Dolby Atmos Now In Denon Products

The latest news from the world of AV is the launch of Denon’s two new X Series Network AV Receivers in the US (and Australia later this year) which are upgrades from last year’s models, with a major feature being the addition of Dolby’s award-winning Atmos technology to “deliver captivating, multi-dimensional sound like never before”.

Dolby Atmos claims to enable sound to come alive from all directions, including overhead, filling the home theatre with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth – leaving us in no doubt as to why this is a worthy development, with more details at Dolby’s blog on why Atmos has the utmost, along with a Dolby Atmos guide worth reading over at AVForums.

For those wondering, Dolby Atmos is also launching on new receivers from Pioneer, Marantz, Integra and Onkyo – but let’s get back to the new Denon duo.
Denon’s AVR-X4100W has a power amplifier with 200 watts per channel, which Denon says creates a “stunning cinema sound and detailed music playback”. Advanced audio options include the “highest resolution audio decoders like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio”, coupled with

“DTS Neo:X, Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz for an even more realistic surround experience with additional height or wide speakers”.

Ther’s also Denon’s own “D.D.S.C.-HD circuit with renowned AL24 Processing Plus” is built-in, with a “Denon Link HD connection for jitter-free transmission from a supporting Denon Blu-ray player.”
Rounding out the enhancements is “the most advanced Audyssey package including Audyssey MultEQ XT 32 (Pro ready) room calibration with Sub EQ HT and LFC.”
Coupled with the power of Dolby Atmos and four DSP (Digital Sound Processing) engines inside the AVR-X4100W, Denon says there’s “enough processing power to run an Audyssey calibrated nine channel Dolby Atmos layout”, and that by adding an additional 2-channel power amplifier, “the Dolby Atmos experience can thus be expanded by using 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 configurations”.
For those wondering, Denon explains that a “5.1.4 speaker configuration is based upon a traditional 5.1 speaker layout complemented by 4 overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. A 7.1.2 configuration is based on a 7.1 speaker layout with 2 overhead, or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.”
Both new AVR X-Series units also have built-in Wi-Fi to easily connect to a home network, and Bluetooth to connect mobile devices with the touch of a button, delivering virtually unlimited music sources and playback options.
Apple users can stream via AirPlay while other smartphone owners can take advantage of DLNA compatibility, while Internet Radio functionality from Spotify, Pandora and for those in the US, SiriusXM.
A USB port on the front lets you add USB storage devices to play back from, or your favourite iDevice for audio playback and battery charging.
There’s even a Denon Remote App, for iOS and Android, which helps beginners and experts alike to set up all the features with ease.
The spec sheet doesn’t end there, with 8 HDMI inputs and 3 HDMI outputs also included, so your AVR-X4100W can “take over full control of literally all digital devices such as Blu-ray players, media players, video cameras and more at the same time.”
4K Ultra HDTV owners will also be pleased to know that the AVR-X4100W’s advanced video processor can already handle “future 4K Ultra HD 50/60 Hz full rate content as well as featuring 4:4:4 Pure Color 4K sub-sampling pass-through, both features of the latest HDMI specification” – alongside the ability to “upconvert and transcode standard definition and high definition video sources up to 4k Ultra HD 50/60 Hz resolution for the ultimate viewing experience.”
A selectable Eco mode lowers power consumption for those who wish to activate it, with Denon saying its AVR-X4100W “owns advanced multi-zone, pre-out and custom installation options to become a true entertainer for the whole home.”

Then there’s Denon’s “true flagship” with 9-channel “monolithic amp design”, the AVR-X5200W.

Featuring everything the AVR-X4100W offers, it naturally packs in even more technology for the most discerning home theatre owners.
Packing a “powerful nine channel amplifier with 205 watts per channel in a discrete monolithic amplifier design with custom made DHCT (Denon High Current Transistors)”, we’re told that this fills the “home theatre with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth.”
It even supports speaker setups that “go beyond its nine power amplifiers stages, thanks to its ability to process even 11.2 channels.”
That means support for 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2 and also a “full 11 channel Dolby Atmos setup” for maximum audio amazingness.
Denon says this delivers its customers the ultimate in “connectivity, versatility and power to the extreme”, which may well give a much more powerful and multi-channel meaning to the term “sounds good!”.
