Yamaha has unveiled two new AV receivers aimed at bringing cinematic Dolby Atmos sound and next-generation gaming features into Australian living rooms.

The Japanese audio giant this week announced the RX500A and RX300A receivers, targeting consumers looking to upgrade home entertainment systems with immersive surround sound, 8K video support and integrated streaming.

Leading the range is the RX500A, a 7.2-channel network-enabled receiver supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, while the RX300A delivers a more affordable 5.2-channel setup with Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X.

Both models support 4K/120Hz and 8K/60Hz video passthrough, alongside HDMI gaming features including Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), positioning the receivers squarely at gamers and home theatre enthusiasts.

Yamaha says the RX500A also adds Wi-Fi streaming with Spotify Connect, Google Cast, AirPlay 2, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect, while both units include Bluetooth Multipoint support for switching between two paired devices.

The company is also pushing simplicity, with built-in room calibration technology and an on-screen Quick Guide setup system designed to streamline installation for mainstream users.

A major focus remains Yamaha’s long-standing audio engineering pedigree. The receivers inherit the company’s Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge — a vibration-dampening fifth foot previously reserved for Yamaha’s premium AV hardware.

According to Yamaha, the new models were engineered with upgraded circuitry and thermal management to ensure stable handling of high-bandwidth HDMI signals and consistent audio performance.

The RX500A offers flexible 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos speaker configurations with either in-ceiling or up-firing speakers, while the RX300A targets smaller home theatre setups.

Australian pricing has only been confirmed for the RX300A at $799.99, with Yamaha yet to announce local pricing for the RX500A.
