Tidal To Stream Master Quality Recordings
Streaming player Tidal, currently the only such service offering high-resolution audio, is set to to expand by partnering with MQA and offering subscribers the ability to listening to master-quality recordings.
The company says “HiFi audio is a superior sound, but is still limited in its resolution—44.1 kHz /16 bit. Yet TIDAL has partnered with MQA to deliver something infinitely better: an authenticated and unbroken version (typically 96 kHz / 24 bit) with the highest-possible resolution—as flawless as it sounded in the mastering suite. And exactly as the artist intended it to sound.”
Tidal have indicated that over 30,000 master-quality tracks are available now, with more content due over time.
However, not everyone will have access to the new feature. Only Tidal HiFi subscribers will have access to “thousands of master-quality albums only through the TIDAL desktop application,” so Tidal Premium subscribers will miss out. At least for now.
The company says that master-quality albums and tracks will be available on Tidal’s mobile and web application at a later date.
Tidal’s HiFi service costs $23.99 a month.
