CES 2017: LG Unveils Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player

LG has announced its latest branch into the home theater space at this year’s CES in Las Vegas with the UP970 Ultra HD Blu-ray player.

Powered by Dolby Vision and ready to deliver 4K and HDR video content, LG say the UP970 “offers consumers access to more of what they want to watch in HDR, enhanced further by a robust portfolio of movies and episodic content in Dolby Vision.”

However, funnily enough, support for Dolby Vision won’t be available until its added to the UP970 via software update later in the year.

In the meantime, the UP970 “offers enhanced dual format HDR compatibility with support for the generic HDR format (HDR10), giving consumers the peace of mind that they will have access to the most HDR content possible.”

LG say it’ll support 10-bit color as well as the playback of high-efficiency video coding (HEVC).

On the audio side of things, it’ll be compatible Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio.

“The LG UP970 Dolby Vision-capable Ultra HD Blu-ray player is an excellent example of our commitment to offering an amazing home HDR viewing experience to our customers,” said Brian Kwon, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company.

“We are proud to have an innovation partner such as Dolby to enhance our OLED and Super UHD TVs with their superior technology.”

Australian pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed.
