Former Telstra spokesperson, Simone Semmens, has been convicted of evading $1.85 million in GST from the sale of several luxury homes.
Reported by The Age, the ex-Channel Seven newsreader will be sentenced after a plea hearing on July 30.The Melbourne resident was found guilty on all ten charges of dishonestly causing loss to the Commonwealth, and has been remanded to the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in Deer Park.
The criminal conduct was first uncovered in 2011, following an ATO audit.
A three-week trial informed a jury that Ms Semmens evaded GST on the transfer of ten properties during 2001 to 2007, and was aware of her tax obligations.
