Xiaomi “Announce” Phone It’s Been Selling Since Last Month

A month after it quietly began selling the device through its Australian online store, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has officially announced the local release of its fast-charging Mi 9 flagship phone.

Xiaomi said the phone is the world’s first to support 20W wireless charging thanks to “significant innovations in wireless charging architecture”.

The phone also charges at 27W over a wired connection, enabling the Mi 9 to charge its 3300mAh battery up to 70% in half an hour, and charge fully in 60 minutes.

The Mi 9 runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and Adreno 640 GPU with 6GB of 2133MHz RAM and is available with 64GB ($829) and 128GB ($879) of storage.

The fingerprint sensor has been placed under the 6.39-inch AMOLED Dot Drop display and Xiaomi claims it unlocks 25% quicker than the previous generation Mi phone.

The Mi 9 is Xiaomi’s first phone to feature the increasingly popular AI triple-camera configuration, with a 48MP sensor complemented by 16MP ultra-wide angle & macro, and 12MP telephoto sensors.

The 64GB comes in “Piano Black” and the 128GB in “Lavender Violet”, with the “Ocean Blue” colour available on both.
