Target To Exit TV’s As Big W Surges
Target who has struggled in the consumer electronics and appliance market up against a surging Big W is believed to be getting out of the TV and CE business.
ChannelNews understands that Slav Andonovski the TV Buyer at Target has quit after just 13 months in the job.
Insiders have told ChannelNews that senior management do not believe that there is enough margin in TV’s and the risks associated with “house brand” products do not warrant the ranging of certain consumer electronic products in their stores.
Andonovski was a former buyer at Big W where the Woolworths own store has significantly expanded their consumer electronics and TV products range with “a great deal of success” .
This week Big W started ranging Sony TV’s alongside the highly successful Polaroid range of TV’s.
Also successful at Big W has been the Laser range of products which according to Laser CEO Chris Lau has led to “significant growth” in 2018.
Suppliers have told CN that a major contributor to Big W’s success has been the approach taken by Taren Singh the senior buyer for CE and appliances at Big W.
One supplier said “He has done a brilliant job of expanding into known brands and is now delivering products that consumers are happy to buy because they are seen as being of good quality and affordable”.
