Switch Boosts Nintendo Profits By 500%
It’s a good day at Nintendo HQ with the company’s full financial year profit skyrocketing by 504 per cent at 177.6 billion yen from 29.3 billion yen in the prior year, all thanks to its latest console, the Nintendo Switch.
Its revenue also jumped by 116 per cent to 1.06 trillion yen compared to 489 billion yen in the prior year.
During this period Nintendo sold 15 million Switch units matching its forecast set in January. The gaming giant was aiming to ship 10 million units in April last year.
Looking ahead, Nintendo says, ‘we plan to leverage this momentum to reach an even broader range of consumers and expand the installed base of the hardware’. It is planning to grow Switch sales to 20 million units over the next financial year.
Nintendo also makes a mention of its Switch game Super Mario Odyssey selling 10.4 million units worldwide.
In a post Nintendo says, “This is in addition to 9.22 million units sold for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 6.02 million units sold for Splatoon 2, bringing the total number of million-seller titles during this fiscal year to 12, including the titles of other software publishers. The combined software sales results for this fiscal year reached 63.51 million units.”
The Nintendo Switch is the company’s fastest selling console and has bolstered video game sales altogether. Since the release of the console last March, sales have jumped by 18 per cent.
