Swedes Join Acer In VR

Acer and Sweden-based game creator Starbreeze have set up a joint-venture, tentatively named Acer Starbreeze, to handle design, production, marketing and sales of StarVR (virtual reality) head-mounted displays, according to a DigiTimes report.

The joint venture will have initial paid-in capital of NT$800 million (US$24.7 million), with Acer and Starbreeze each holding a 50 percent stake. The new venture will be established in Taiwan in Q3, Acer said.

StarVR is said to provide immersive VR experiences with an ultra-wide 210-degree horizontal field of view and customised optics. This allows users to move their eyes freely in any direction and continue to be immersed in the virtual world, without the sensation of wearing the blinders that conventional VR displays bring.
