Sony is tapping into the transparent gadget trend of the late 1990s with a new range of see-through accessories for the PlayStation 5.

The new Prism Collection includes DualSense wireless controllers and matching PS5 console covers in three colours: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray.

Rather than changing the performance of the console or controller, the collection is focused entirely on design. The transparent finish allows parts of the internal hardware to remain visible, while Sony has added a glossy surface treatment intended to give the accessories a more premium appearance.

Sony said its design team wanted to revisit the transparent electronics aesthetic while adapting it to the industrial design of the current PS5 generation.

The DualSense controllers feature a high-gloss transparent finish extending across the rear, providing a partial view of the components inside. Sony has maintained a largely monochromatic appearance across each colour option rather than using contrasting buttons or controls.

Matching PS5 console covers use transparent exterior sections combined with a metallic finish through the centre of the console.

Flare Orange provides the brightest option, with the transparent material developing a slightly rosy appearance where different sections overlap. Emerald Green uses a darker green treatment, while Graphite Gray delivers a more restrained, cool-toned finish.

Sony said the Prism Collection DualSense controllers will carry a US recommended retail price of US$84.99, equivalent to approximately A$121 based on current exchange rates.

The matching PS5 console covers have been priced at US$74.99, which converts to around A$107. These conversions do not represent official Australian pricing and local retail prices may differ.

The Prism Collection is scheduled to begin launching globally from February 4, 2027, with pre-orders opening from November 10, 2026 in participating markets.

Sony has confirmed the controllers will be offered globally, although exact launch dates and availability will differ between countries. The console covers will be sold directly by PlayStation in markets where its direct sales operation is available, with limited quantities offered through selected retailers elsewhere.

Australian availability and official local pricing have not yet been detailed by Sony.
