Sony has added a new colour option to its award-winnning noise-cancelling headphone range, with the flagship WH-1000XM6 model now available in a new Olive Gray finish.

The new hue joins the latest Sand Pink and Sandstone additions, and continues Sony’s offering of premium, nature-inspired finishes. The company states it believes its premium product should be made with aesthetics and function in mind, with the new finish offering a more understated and neutral look to their product lineup.

There are no major hardware changes associated with the new colour. The Olive Gray version retains the same core WH-1000XM6 platform and premium feature set.

Sitting at the top end of Sony’s consumer headphone range, the WH-1000XM6 combines active noise cancellation, premium audio processing and advanced voice-call technology. The flagship model uses the Sony’s QN3 HD Noise Cancelling Processor, which works with a multi-microphone system to adjust noise cancellation in real time.

Sony is positioning the headphones around premium sound, industry-leading noise cancellation and clearer voice calls, making the product relevant to commuters, travellers, professionals and premium audio consumers.

When it comes to premium headphones, colour has become an important factor with companies increasingly offering a range of options to meet consumer behaviour, where headphones are purchased not only as audio products but also as wearable lifestyle accessories.

The muted Olive Gray finish could appeal to consumers looking for a more restrained alternative to traditional black headphones, particularly in the premium over-ear category.

The WH-1000XM6 also offers up to 30 hours of battery life with noise cancellation enabled, with quick charging providing additional listening time from a short charge.

The new headphones are available now in Australia for A$549.95.
